Gordon's Shellfish Operation in Public Landing |
The Gordon's Shellfish operation rests on the shores of Chincoteague Bay, in the village of Public Landing. We culture numerous shellfish species, using both upwellers and raceways that are supplied with 3500 gallons of water from Chincoteague Bay per minute. We also have multiple bottom leases located in strategic areas around the coastal bys to facilitate over-winter holding Our land-based facility operates mid-May to mid-October with on-bottom facilities year round. |

| Public Landing is located on the shores of Chincoteague Bay near the southernmost point of Maryland's Eastern Shore. It is south of Salisbury (the largest town on the Eastern Shore) and just north of the Virginia state line. Chincoteague Bay is one of Maryland's Coastal Bays which also include Assawoman, Isle of Wight, Sinepuxent and Newport Bays as well as many other smaller bays and estuaries within the watershed area. They are also referred to as the "back bays" because they are located behind Ocean City and Assateague Island. Maryland's coastal bays make up one of the richest, most diverse estuaries on the eastern seaboard. For more than a century, agriculture, forestry, fishing, hunting, and more recently tourism, have sustained ways of life built on the land and water resources in this coastal community.
